Tribal recognition petition collects a third of signatures it needs to become ballot measure

Patrons of a Tribal acknowledgment drive will speak Tuesday at the Alaska Federation of Natives yearly show.


 In October, the gathering Alaskans for Better Government started gathering marks for the drive. Whenever passed, it would require the territory of Alaska to perceive each of the 229 governmentally perceived Tribes in the state.


The gathering says that the objective of the drive is to make a long-lasting government-to-government connection between the state and Alaska Native Tribes.


The voting form measure is co-supported by Chalyee Éesh Richard Peterson, Kaaxúxgu Joe Nelson, La quen náay Liz Medicine Crow and 'Wáahlaal Gíidaak Barbara Blake.


Up until this point an overabundance for the drive to make it onto the following year's polling form have been gathered.

Recently, Representative Tiffany Zulkosky presented a Tribal acknowledgment charge which passed in the House, however slowed down in the Senate. A comparable bill was likewise presented in 2020.
